Description
Memory is a strange thing. It holds the smell of an old iron and a song my mother sang at the stove, then suddenly erases faces as if they never existed. And it seems like you're living by the rules, working, closing the gate - but inside, you're no longer the reckless person who once twisted life like a cowboy's lasso. Everything has become slower, softer, more cautious.
But there is something familiar in this fatigue - like a warm hand that holds your fingers tightly, preventing you from completely falling apart into ‘yesterday’ and ‘tomorrow.’ And perhaps it is in moments like these that you realise: true strength is not in the circle you have run, but in the fact that you have not forgotten why you ran in the first place.
Lyrics and translation
Original
It's not the clothes that you choose that cuts through me
It's not the way you do your hair that does me right
It's the times you unwind my confusion
Well, it's dallied tight
Not so long ago, I'd throw my leg around life
And I'd stay with each day and spur 'em down
But that age has come and gone and the memories
Won't stay around
But in time, I know my mind will come back to me
Like the songs that my momma used to sing
I'll remember who I am if you grab aholt my hand
I'll recall you are my all and everything
Well, I was raised to take the biggest circles
Never shirked any work there was to do
But now by the time I get the gate closed
I'm feelin' through
But in time, I know my mind will come back to me
Like the songs that my momma used to sing
I'll remember who I am if you grab aholt my hand
I'll recall you are my all and everything
