Aux enfants de demain

3:44french indie pop, french pop, french house, chanson, variété française 2025-10-03

Description

It sounds like a letter to the future - not about personal matters, but about what an entire generation went through. The questions that children will ask ‘later’ hang in the air: was it warm, did we know how to love, why was the world falling apart while someone was singing songs about freedom? And in these questions, you can feel the fear of not finding an answer - but along with it, the determination to leave at least some truth behind.

The music rises like a rally of whispers turned into a collective cry. It is about how sometimes all that remains is to unite, hold each other's hands and repeat - ‘on dira’. And in this persistence there is both bitterness and hope: even if tomorrow it will be too late to ask, today we can still sing out loud.

Lyrics and translation

Original

On dira, on dira.

Qu'écoutait-on vraiment?

On dira, on dira.

English translation

To the children of tomorrow who will ask us if we had bread and what we did, if the summer was hot, if the winter was pure, if we found the words to talk about the future.

When they ask how a world collapses, what dare we say?

To the children of tomorrow who will ask us if we had wine and if we loved each other, if the dawn was serene, if the night was tender, what were our sorrows, what did we have to wait for?

And if we always dared to disobey, what will we find to say?

Perhaps we will say that there were a handful of us, a few, a few, then suddenly thousands to spread the word, regardless of the pressure, and to speak out loudly about all our convictions, to speak out, to join hands, to fight for yesterday, to fight for tomorrow. We'll say, we'll say.

Will it be enough?

We will say, we will say that we were shouting for Gaza.

To the children of tomorrow who will not understand how this was possible at a time like this, at a time when everything is immediately known, what was which minister saying, what was being shown by which media.

When it is too late to dare to mope, what will we dare to say?

To the children of tomorrow who will one day ask what our choruses said, were they about love, struggle, justice or all of that at the same time?

Or were the artifices still taking center stage in a world full of fire and blood?

What were we really listening to?

Perhaps we will say that there were a handful of us, a few, a few, then suddenly thousands to spread the word, regardless of the pressure, and to speak out loudly about all our convictions, to speak out, to join hands, to fight for yesterday, to fight for tomorrow.

We'll say, we'll say.

Will it be enough?

We will say, we will say that we cried for Gaza.

To the children of tomorrow who will ask us if despite our struggles, our good intentions, we are sure and certain that we really did everything when the Gaza Strip in front of us was fading away, when the Gaza Strip was fading away little by little in front of the cameras and right before our eyes.

When it is too late to dare to mope, what will we dare to say?

What dare we answer?
