Words I should've said

The voice repeats ‘should know’ like a note on the fridge - at first sharply, then irritatingly kindly. The truth here is not wrapped in candy wrappers: it is cut up, stored on the shelves of memory and left to gather dust until you want to shake out the entire library of memories. Weakness is covered up by the habit of not asking for help, and bitterness by the ability to swallow it beautifully. The boat sinks slowly but with dignity; light and shadow live in the same room, and sometimes it seems that just a little more is needed for everything to fall into place. The irony is that growth comes with fatigue, and boundaries seem both rigid and homely at the same time.
