The Big Goodbye

An auction of other people's bids against internal bargaining with oneself: ‘give 30, make it 40, raise it to 45’ - as if numbers could drown out the anxiety that success was not so cloudless after all. Yesterday's empty halls are replaced by ‘they know in LA,’ but instead of euphoria, there is a sticky feeling of lagging behind friends, longing for familiar streets, and fear that this whole movie with a ‘happy ending’ may not end according to the script. The music sounds like a road map to adulthood: don't look back, don't slow down, and really hope that life will indeed turn out ‘like this.’
