Chest Pain (I Love)

My chest feels as if an invisible cat weighing a couple of tonnes has sat on it. They promised it would go away, that the anguish would dissolve somewhere between “yesterday” and “tomorrow”... but every time it comes back, like an annoying alarm clock with no snooze button.

And lying in bed turns out to be easier than trying to figure out a route to a normal life. My legs feel like they're stuck in sticky syrup, my thoughts go round and round in circles, and all I can hear inside is an endless ‘I love you’. It repeats itself stubbornly, like a stuck record, and for some reason it doesn't make it any easier, only more painful.

The music stretches out softly and mournfully, as if the lamp on the ceiling is flashing in time with the heartbeat. Nothing happens except this dull desire: let someone stay close, at least for one night, so that the room becomes a little brighter than inside.
